Abstract. Driven by the capabilities of modern high speed networks, a new generation of distributed systems is emerging, that will be able to support a wide range of applications in distributed environvents. Such systems are expected to consist of a large number of geographically dispersed components interacting via communication networks. Therefore, forthcoming communication systems must scale well in respect to both, number of users and number of connections. Powerful and scaleble control mecanisms are essential to overcome the implosion problem and to realize efficien error recovery. This paper persents a new control scheme suitable for multicast communication in large-scale groups and describes its integration in a well-known transport protocol.
